Discover the IXV spacecraft

28 May 2015 News No Comments

On Saturday 6 June 2015 from 10:00am to 4:00pm, the VKI will open its doors and invites you to discover the IXV spacecraft and the VKI laboratories involded in the space programme. Qinetiq Space and SABCA, both Belgian partners of the IXV mission, will also present their activities.

Last February 2015, the ESA launched for the first time the intermediate experimental vehicle (IXV). It was a complete success. The spacecraft was then released into a suborbital trajectory, flew a flawless re-entry and splashed down into the Pacific Ocean just west of the Galapagos islands after 100 minutes. The mission of the IXV is developing an autonomous European re-entry capability for future reusable space transportation. Three Belgian partners actively participated in the success of this mission: VKI, QinetiQ and SABCA.

Activities for children as from 8 year old.

Guided tours will be in Dutch, English and French.
